WHAT HAPPENS WHEN dedicated men believe in a cause so strongly that they are willing to sacrifice their wives, their children, their lands, and worst of all, their fellow Arabs who are foolish enough to protect them? How do you protect yourself from them, how do you stop them, and how do you make peace with them? The answer is in the history books. One such case is that of the Plains Indians. There are many parallels between the problems faced by the US government in dealing with the threats of renegade Indians and the renegade Arabs. Yes I believe the problem is the same as in the case of the Plains Indians. The Arabs were mistreated, cheated, and oppressed by the European invaders. This precipitated a period of defensive warfare on the part of both the Plains Indian and the Arab; a noble and just cause for both native groups trying to repel an invader, and unfortunately, a futile effort gallantly lost to overpowering odds and weaponry. This is the point: in any lost conflict in which the general population splits into two camps the majority makes an attempt (even if it is not heart felt) to conform to, or at least passively comply, with the new society's rules. The second group, usually significantly smaller in size, chooses not to accept the fate dealt them and goes underground to carry on the great struggle against the invader. As time goes on they make little headway and become frustrated. This precipitates bold and reckless attacks that for the most part fail. Now you enter into the most dangerous period for the government in control and the native population that has turned down the road of compromise and has started the process of assimilation. It is at this point when the freedom fighters become renegades. The war against the invaders has failed. The native population, for whatever reason, is "pacified". Now they have very little support from the people, and it becomes very easy to justify the unthinkable. That is, the sacrifice of native women and children, not to mention the women and children of the invaders (if they get in the way of a well-placed bomb) as long as the invading foe is attacked. So, now that I have defined the cycle, let us look at how the government of the US dealt with the problem of renegade Indians. Most Indians had been put on reservations by treaty, but history tells us that a goodly percentage of true cowboys, meaning those that hearded cattle and wintered at the high range stations, were of Indian heritage. Some worked in the towns and others actually owned ranches. As in any society, if you have money you will be accepted (or at least tolerated). But for all the government could do within the structures of the law and the might of the army they couldn’t keep the renegades from raiding, killing, and torturing citizens of European decent. |
Becoming frustrated with the inability to control the renegades, the general public cried for a solution to the Indian problem. So now the government was facing a crisis. By this time even the most moderate members of congress could no longer support the Indian cause and were demanding action. Now we all know that when a government is given a mandate it will act swiftly and with extreme prejudice in the name of peace. And that is just what they did. First, they gave the army a free hand to hunt down and kill any Indian (man, woman, or child) that they deemed part of the rebellion. Second they promoted the annihilation of the buffalo, thus starving the remaining off reservation Indians. And third, the most inhuman of all, they allow the distribution of contaminated blankets to all Indians, even those on the reservations, thus insuring that the young would not live to become warriors. The result was the end of the Indian threat, and damned near the plains Indians in total, not to mention the ostracizing of Indians from American society for decades. Now let us look at the Arab problem. The US government is at the end game point with the Arab renegades, as they were one hundred fifty years ago with the Indian renegades. And with the bold and ridiculously stupid attack of 911 even the moderates in this government, and most of the European governments, are now willing to allow the moderate Arabs, who are unwilling or unable to help stop the terrorist, to be sacrificed in the name of peace. So it is my opinion that, like the renegade American Indian, the renegade Arab had a just cause for his fight but has crossed the point of no return. No one can control them, and there is no way we can protect ourselves, as long as they are a viable segment of the world population. SO I SAY TO ALL ARABS, CLEAN YOUR OWN HOUSE NOW, NOT NEXT YEAR. OR THE WORLD, NOT JUST THE UNITED STATES, WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AND YOU WILL GO THE WAY OF THE PLAINS INDIAN. |
